Painless Injection Technique
What’s the worst part of going to the dentist? If you’re like most patients, the first thing that comes to mind is “the shots.” No one likes getting a shot, especially, not in the mouth. We know that and that is why we do everything we can to eliminate that fear. One of the most frequent comments we hear in our office is, “Wow, I didn’t feel anything, did you even give me a shot?” The answer is, “Nope, we used the Wand.”
So what exactly is this magic “Wand” that we use? The Wand is essentially a computer- controlled dental injection. The flow rate of the local anesthetic is controlled by a computer which basically guarantees it will be slow and steady and therefore, comfortable.
Most people who have had bad experiences with injections think that needles hurt because the skin is pierced. More often, the pain was caused by the anesthetic being delivered too quickly. Of course it is possible for a dentist to control the anesthetic speed with a standard syringe, but the purpose of the Wand is to eliminate human error. This is reassuring for patients with previous bad experiences.
